Tyler Mahle has easily been the talk of the season so far when it comes to exceeding any and all expectations, going above and beyond so far to start the 2025 season.

Mahle is leading all qualified SP this season with an otherworldly .68 ERA in 26.2 IP, with a perfect 3-0 Record on the season so far. He’s not gonna blow you away with 99+, and so many other advanced metrics will say he’s lucky, but what Mahle is doing is exciting to his game plan, and it is working better than any other pitcher in the league.

Tyler Mahle has also done his work against some of the most effective offenses in the league. He went 7IP of 1 run ball vs the Red Hot Cubs, 6IP not allowing a single run vs the highly effective Angels lineup, and to add the cherry on top, he went 7IP not allowing a single run against a full force Dodgers Lineup, holding them to just 2 hits on the day.

With Injuries to Jack Leiter, Jon Gray, and Cody Bradford, Mahle’s rise has been a huge foundation for the Rangers this season. Mahle has kept the Rangers in it every single game so far, exceeding preseason expectations for him, and has taken the reins of this Rangers pitching staff.

Lefties are hitting just a microscopic .049 vs him, albeit righties aren’t faring too well with a .167 Avg. Despite his league average run on his breaking balls, his Fastball and Offspeed have been some of the best in the game. Mahle certainly has skipper Bruce Bochy and Mike Maddux beaming with excitement with their newfound gem in the Rangers' rotation.

If Mahle can keep up just a bit of what he has going on, it will be an amazing bonus for the Rangers to find a legit arm to help lighten the load off of Eovaldi and deGrom, setting up the Rangers nicely down the road. As we all know, deGrom is coming off Tommy John still, and Eovaldi has been a workhorse for the Rangers, even while suffering a couple of IL stints since landing in Texas. Even though most likely with him coming off TJ as well, he will be limited on the innings he will go, the innings he's throwing right now are invaluable to the Rangers and their banged-up starting rotation.

His next start will be yet another tester as he’s set to face a very potent Giants lineup over the weekend in San Francisco. If Mahle can close out April with another 6+ Inning performance, it will be one of the best months in history for a Rangers pitcher and will be a testament to how far the righty has come since his Tommy John Surgery and solidify himself as a top arm in the rotation
