The 18-year-old is off to a great start this spring going 3 for 6 and hitting his first Cactus League Home Run yesterday so it seemed like a great time to highlight the young shortstop who’s currently the #1 Rated Rangers prospect and the #17 Overall on the MLB Pipeline Prospect Rankings.

Walcott started to show signs of what could come after his first full year of play in the Minor leagues in 2024. In 121 games Walcott had an OPS that was just shy of .800 sitting at .796 and hit 11 home runs while also walking at a rate of 11.6 which is above league average. The Shortstop even got the promotion up to AA Frisco for their playoff run where he hit .348 with a .984 OPS showcasing that he’s more than ready for the next step up and is the clear-cut favorite to be the Opening day Shortstop for the Frisco Roughriders.

Even though it’s only spring, seeing Walcott get off to a fast start and into the groove of things is good to see in his first Major League camp. Walcott is now 3 for 6 and as stated before, he got his first long ball yesterday. Walcott working with the big league coaching and getting new sets of eyes on him will benefit him so much in the long haul. With Walcott being so young, getting tons of eyes on him right now will be crucial for him if he takes all the information given to him from the years of experience inside the Rangers clubhouse.

On Opening Day for Frisco, Walcott will only be 19 years old and has so much more room to learn, grow, and hone in his craft. Walcott being already put into a Major League camp shows how much faith and belief CY and company have in the youngster and could be a sign of great things to come.

You almost can’t put a value on him spending time with the big leagues like Marcus Semien and Corey Seager who Walcott could share the middle infield with one day. 2025 will be a very influential year on his road to the Big Leagues as we will see if he takes another big step forward in his development or if it will be a bit more of a slow process because if Walcott plays to his potential I believe we could see him in Round Rock towards the end of the season.

Walcott will surely be at the top of the totem pole of faces to keep track of this year for the Rangers and will hopefully be part of this Organization for years to come and be at the forefront of this Franchise, he’s got the potential and for him to be doing what he is at only 18 shows how exceptional this young man is and just what he can be.
